UFC Fight Night 24 Medical Suspensions Issued

By Mike Whitman Mar 29, 2011
Though he earned “Fight of the Night” honors at UFC Fight Night 24 for his three-round donnybrook with fellow Octagon newcomer Edwin Figueroa, bantamweight Michael McDonald may be on the shelf for a while as a result of his crowd-pleasing performance.

Sherdog.com on Tuesday confirmed with the Washington State Department of Licensing that McDonald has been suspended indefinitely following his post-fight medical examination. State officials did not specify a reason for the suspension, which is likely to be waived upon McDonald’s clearance by a physician.

UFC Fight Night 24 was held at KeyArena in Seattle on March 26 and was headlined by a light heavyweight confrontation between blue-chip prospect Phil Davis and Pride Fighting Championships veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Both main event competitors were suspended for just seven days following Davis’ unanimous decision victory at the event.

Most fighters’ suspensions matched those of the headliners, although two competitors were suspended for over a month following the event. Both Nik Lentz and Kris McCray were dealt 42-day suspensions due to injuries sustained in their back-and-forth undercard battles. Additionally, T.J. Waldburger, Mario Miranda and DaMarques Johnson and Jon Madsen were each suspended for 30 days.
