On Nov. 17, 2000, the Ultimate Fighting Championship was in Atlantic City for UFC 28: High Stakes.

In the main event, Randy Couture returned to the UFC after having vacated his heavyweight belt two years prior to challenge new champion Kevin Randleman. Couture was able to use his Greco-Roman wrestling to secure an advantage over his Folkstyle opponent, ultimately scoring a ground-and-pound TKO stoppage in the third round and reclaiming the heavyweight title. Also at heavyweight, Renato Sobral defeated former champion Maurice Smith by decision.

Elsewhere on the card, Josh Barnett TKO’d Gan McGee in the only official super heavyweight fight in UFC history, Andrei Arlovski won his promotional debut by submitting Aaron Brink, Jens Pulver scored a devastating one-punch highlight reel knockout over John Lewis and Matt Hughes’ twin brother Mark won his first and only UFC fight with a decision win over Alex Stiebling.
